Students

St. Elizabeth Elementary School is a kindergarten through eighth grade co-educational Roman Catholic institution of the Diocese of Wilmington. There are approximately thirty-three (33) students in each of two homeroom sections at every grade level.

Student Services

Food - Except for our kindergarteners, students eat lunch in our cafeteria. Hot lunches are available daily, as well as snacks, juice, milk and ice cream! To check out the cafeteria menu, click here.

Health - The elementary and high school share the services of a full-time nurse. Mrs. Marion Flores will be providing the necessary care for the children. She is available during the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 2:40 p.m. and is located downstairs across from the high school offices. If you have questions or concerns please contact Mrs. Marion Flores at .

Guidance - Guidance counselor, Mrs. Theresa Dempsey, is available for the children Monday - Friday from 7:30a.m. to 2:40 p.m. The Guidance counselor meets with students as the need arises. Feel free to stop by or contact Mrs. Theresa Dempsey at .

Viking Resource Room - A new program has been created to help students who have been identified as having a learning disability. One full-time special education teacher will staff the resource room. The goal of the program is to provide a multi-sensory approach to learning for those children who are eligible. To learn more about the Resource Room, contact Ms. Nancy Cooper at .

Library - The school library is available to students in grades K - 8. Grades K - 6 have a scheduled period for time in the library during the school day. Students in grades 6 through 8 may come to the library Tuesdaythrough Thursday, from 2:40 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. Mrs. Brockel is the librarian and is available to the students during the school day, Tuesday through Thursday. Computer Lab - The school computer lab is available to all students in grades K-8. Each class has a scheduled period for time in the lab. Mrs. Lashley is the computer teacher and is available to the students during their lunch recess Tuesday through Friday, and after school till 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Advance notice (earlier in the day) for computer availability would be appreciated. Contact Mrs. Lashley at .

We are continuing this year with our recycling project of empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges. New to the program is the collection of old cell phones. Summer Uniform

Kindergarten
The uniform for Kindergarten boys and girls will be a maroon sweat suit with St. Elizabeth insignia purchased from Rush Uniform. White or black sneakers are acceptable.

The gym uniform purchased from Rush Uniform will be worn for gym and as part of the school uniform in September, May and June.

Girls
Gr. 1-5: Plaid jumper or gray slacks purchased from Rush Uniform (Jumper may not be shorter than 2-1/2 inches from the middle of the knee.
Gr. 6-8: Gray slacks purchased from Rush Uniform.

Boys
Solid gray slacks purchased from Rush Uniform. Belts are always required.

Boys and Girls
Shirt -Plain, white three-button shirt ("Viking" is the only allowed insignia); white, Peter Pan collar blouse for girls or white, dress shirt for boys. Uniform ties must be worn with the dress shirt if chosen. (Please be sure shirts, especially white shirts are clean and not wrinkled.)

Maroon three-button shirt with "Viking" insignia purchased from Rush Uniform may be worn in either long or short sleeves.

White turtlenecks are permitted from October 1 until April 30.

Vests or sweaters - (Maroon) Must be purchased from Rush Uniform. Vests or sweaters must be worn with skirts or slacks from October 1 through April 30 unless otherwise announced by the principal because of warm weather. (The maroon vest is not required when the maroon shirt is worn.)

Shoes and Socks
Girls and boys in Grades 1 through 8 must wear a lace-up black dress shoe. The maximum height for the heel is 1-1/2 inches. Clogs, sneakers, sandals, platform shoes, boot or boot-like footwear are not acceptable. Only maroon knee socks, anklets or tights are permitted for girls. Boys must wear dark, solid colored socks.

Gym Uniforms
Gym uniforms must be purchased from Rush Uniform. Shorts and tops must be size appropriate. Sneakers may be either white or black. Students may wear their gym uniforms to school on their gym day.

In the winter months, students must wear full-length sweatpants and sweatshirts in maroon, gray, gold or white only. These may be purchased from the St. Elizabeth Athletic Association, Rush Uniform or wherever you choose.

Summer Uniforms
All students in Grades 1-8 are required to wear the gym shorts and a white or maroon three-button shirt in September, May and June. White or black sneakers should be worn with the summer uniform.

Tag/Nut Pass Days

Throughout the school year special days are set aside for non-regulation attire. In addition, students may earn "NUT (no uniform today) Day" passes, which may be used when the students choose unless restricted by the Administration. Appropriate wear consists of dress or casual clothes that are in good condition. Casual wear may include jeans, sweat suits and sneakers. Halter-tops, tops with spaghetti straps, short-shorts, and any clothing with inappropriate words are never permitted.

Field Trips

Field trips are scheduled for the academic enrichment of the students. Field trips are a privilege; no student has an absolute right to a field trip.

School personnel maintain the right to exclude a student from a field trip for disciplinary reasons. Students excluded from participation must attend school that day and will be supervised by another staff member. If the student does not attend school that day, a doctor's note will be required upon return.

* Please note that between Periods 3 and 4, time is provided for departmental students to exchange books so that they are not carrying too many books at one time.

Class Lists

To protect the privacy of our students & families, class lists are posted in late August and removed by the second week of school. These lists are available upon request.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra-curricular activities are available for student participation. These activities may vary from year to year but may include sports teams under the supervision of the Athletic Association, Declamation League, Student Leadership Group, Choir, The Viking View (student newspaper), Grade 8 Diocesan It's Academic Team, and Math and Science Olympiad Team.
