IT IS TIME TO TAKE ACTION!

As many of you may have heard, Governor Markell’s proposed 2010-11 budget eliminates both the nursing and the transportation subsidy for non-public schools. These funds are essential for the funding of our school nurse and as an off-set to the cost that most of you accrue in transporting your children to and from school. It is important that we work quickly to see these funds restored through the budget process in the legislature. Specifically I need you and as many relatives, friends, and neighbors that you can convince to contact members of the Joint Finance Committee and state legislators to ask for their help in restoring these funds to the proposed budget.

There are several ways that you can help:

  1. Sign up for the Delaware Catholic Advocacy Network. This will alert you when legislation is up for a vote and allows you to send emails to your legislators to make your voice heard. To sign up visit www.cdow.org and click on the link which says Click here to join the Delaware Catholic Advocacy Network. Encourage others to sign up as well.
  2. Write, email, or call your senator and representative to inform them of the issue and ask for their support.
  3. Write or email the members of the Joint Finance Committee to ask for their support in restoring the funds.
  4. Attend the DACSP meeting scheduled for March 8 at 7:00 pm at Padua Academy. You will be updated on the progress of our efforts.

If you need to know who your Representative and Senator are, you can call the Department of Elections at one of the following numbers:

New Castle County:  (302) 577-3464
Kent County: (302) 739-4498
Sussex County: (302) 856-5367

The Catholic Schools Office requests that you cc them on any email or letter which is written so that they can have some indication of the level of communication which takes place. The appropriate email address to copy is as follows: dacsp@cdowschools.org .

Not only do you sacrifice to send your children to our school, but at the same time you save the state of Delaware $3,500,000.00 every year. That is how much it would cost if every Saint Elizabeth Elementary student was enrolled in a public school.

It is time to take action now.
